Please note: All levels may not have availability at all times. Level 4 classes will be taught during morning classes only.

   Swimming Lesson Placement/Class Selection (Please read carefully.)

Step 1: Age

 Please select the correct age range for the student. Please note, the classes are almost identical between age ranges. Beginners will be taught a similar lesson in both the Tot and Youth age groups. The reason for the separation is to keep kids with similar attention spans, tolerances, and maturity levels together.

Tot age group: 3 to 5 years old

Levels 1 through 4: 6 to 14 years old

Step 2: Ability Level

Please select the general ability level of the student based on the skills provided for each lesson. If your student has no experience with the water, please enroll them in the Tot 1 or Level 1.

- blowing bubbles through mouth and nose, opening eyes underwater and retrieving a submerged object in less than 2 ft. of water, assisted front and back float, assisted from and back glide, assisted alternating arm and leg action on front and back, changing direction while walking or paddling

 Tot 2 

 must be 3-5 years of age and complete skills in
Tots 1 

- enter the water safely by jumping or stepping in, exit the water safely using the ladder or the side, bobbing fully submerged, opening eyes under water and retrieving submerged objects in greater than 2 ft. of water, unassisted front and back glide, unassisted alternating arm and leg action on front and back, treading water using arm and leg action in moderate-deep water

 Tot 3

 must be 3-5 years of age and complete skills in
 Tots 2

 -enter deep water by jumping in, submerge and retrieve an object in chest deep water, deep water floating on front and back, diving from a seated or kneeling position, tread water, front and back glide 10 yds, front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl, backstroke.

 Level 1

 must be 6 years of age and up

 Level 2

 must be 6 years of age and up and must have completed level 1 skills

Introduction to breaststroke and elementary backstroke.

 Level 3

 must be 6 years of age and up and must have completed level 2 skills

 -enter deep water by jumping in, submerge and retrieve an object in chest deep water, deep water floating on front and back, diving from a seated or kneeling position, tread water, front and back glide using two different kicks, front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl, backstroke. Introduction to side stroke and butterfly. Refine breaststroke and elementary backstroke.

 Level 4

 must be 6 years of age and up and must have completed level 3 skills

- standing dive, swimming underwater, front crawl- 25 yards, back crawl- 15 yards, breaststroke- 15 yards, butterfly- 15 yards, swim on side using a scissor-like kick, and tread water for 1 minute. Refine butterfly and sidestroke.

 
More Important Swim Lesson Details: 

 •Classes are held Monday through Thursday for 2 week blocks. NO FRIDAY CLASSES. No class Monday, July 4.
 
•Each session consists of eight, 30-minute lessons.
•No make-up classes will be available for missed classes unless class is cancelled
 by Aquatic Facility management. 
• Please schedule lessons carefully, as NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. 
• Classes not meeting minimum enrollment requirements of 5 students will be cancelled. In the event of a cancellation, participants will be offered a credit, refund or transfer to another available class.

 

  All lessons are $32.00 per session for Carson City residents
or $40.00 for nonresidents.

Grown Ups & Guppies (ages six months - 3 years)
Making the water fun for your toddler is the most important step in preparing your child for swim lessons. This class is designed to acquaint parent and child with play activities and teach some fundamental skills. The course is parent-driven under the supervision of an instructor. No registration required. Class is limited to 12 parent/child pairs. First come, first served basis.
