The Environmental Protection Agency's Brownfields Program empowers states, communities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. A brownfields site is real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.
EPA provides financial assistance through competitive grants under the Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act.
Carson City was selected to receive a community-wide Assessment Grant for Hazardous Substances ($200,000) as well as an Assessment Grant for Petroleum Substances ($200,000). The performance period for these grants is 2009-2012. The City has retained local consultants, Geocon Consultants, Inc. and Resource Concepts Incorporated (RCI), to assist with Community Outreach and Grant Administration, and to perform Environmental Site Assessments and Clean-Up Planning.
For more information, please contact John Juhrend at Geocon, 775-888-9900 or Marvin Tebeau at RCI, 775-883-1600.
