The mission of the men and women of the Carson City Fire Department is to serve the community with pride, commitment, and compassion.
The Carson City Fire Department is comprised of seven divisions which contribute to the safe community we enjoy. We serve the community in many different ways, including emergency situation management such as fires and medical services, answering 7,080 calls in calendar year 2005. Personnel receive continuous ongoing training to keep them abreast of every nuance in all areas, including fire and emergency medical service, hazardous materials, confined space rescue, fire prevention, aircraft fire rescue, and others.
In addition, the fire department as a whole is involved in many public contact programs such as fire extinguisher classes in businesses and homes, station tours, the "Learn Not to Burn" program in the schools, fire prevention programs in the schools, job shadow program for schools, school-to-careers program for schools, public fire education with firefighters, Carson City Safer Schools Committee, TRIAD Senior Advisory Council, juvenile fire setter counseling, life safety fire inspections of businesses, senior fire safety classes, pre-school center fire safety inspections, public safety fire education with service clubs, the Chamber of Commerce Leadership program, education for defensible space in wildland urban interface areas, a ride-a-long program, paramedic demonstrations for schools, informational booths at public fairs, earthquake preparedness information, and Open House during Fire Prevention Week.
The Emergency Medical Services Division provides ambulance service and advance life support for Carson City. Medical aid calls are the majority of what the department answers on a daily basis. Included in this division are the billing and payment collection services with a billing co-op consisting of Carson City and Lyon County ambulance services.
We also have members who are part of Warren Engine Company No. 1 (WECO), our all-volunteer organization. WECO is an integral part of our department and has efficiently served the community for over 143 years.
