If you are a registered voter in CARSON CITY you have voting options, EARLY VOTING at the clerks office for 2 weeks before the election, VOTING AT YOUR POLLING PLACE on Election Day, and ABSENTEE by mail. 

Sample Ballots: Are mailed out to Active Voters prior to when Early Voting begins. If you do not receive a sample ballot prior to the election stop by the office to pick one up.  You should call the office to verify your mailing address. Your polling place for Election Day and times for Early Voting will appear on your sample ballot. Please BRING YOUR SAMPLE BALLOT WHEN YOU APPEAR TO VOTE.

Early Voting Location: Early Voting in Carson City is located at the Clerks Office in the Court House at 885 East Musser Street, on the first floor.  If you are not available to vote on Election Day, or you want to avoid the election day crowds, VOTE EARLY!

Voting at your Polling Place:
On ELECTION DAY, you must vote at your polling place.  Voting hours are 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Absentee Voting: If you are home bound, or for some reason unable to go to the polls to vote on election day or early vote you may request an absentee ballot.  Absent Ballots must be requested each election year at least one week prior to the election. 

REMEMBER:  If you registered to vote by mail, you must provide ID when you vote for the first time.  This includes if you request an absentee ballot.  You must provide proof of identity and residence at the time of requesting the ballot, or when you return your voted ballot.

Submit your request in writing to the County Clerks office.  In your request Indicate:

  • Your Name
  • Residence in Carson City
  • Address where the absent ballot is to be mailed (if different)
  • What election(s) you are requesting a ballot (Primary and/or General)
  • Sign your request

Absent Ballot requests are good for current election only (Primary and General), you must submit your request for each election cycle.

MILITARY AND OVERSEAS VOTERS You now have the option to fax or email your ABSENT BALLOT.  When completing a FPCA, include your email address or fax number and be sure to mark how you would like to receive your absent ballot.  If you receive a absent ballot by mail and would like to return your ballot by email or fax, you must print out a Declaration and a Electronic Transmission Cover Sheet to include with your ballot.  Review the Instructions for details.  For further information or questions on where to send your electronic ballot email or call the office at 775-887-2087.


Please Note: Disabled Voters will be given priority in voting at the Polls or the Clerks Office, if requested. Staff will take them to the front of the line to be processed at the precinct table.
