By spending $10 or $15 extra for a good cause, McLaughlin, Carson City recording secretary, collected 300 pounds of food for the city employees' annual food drive to benefit Advocates to End Domestic Violence, a local shelter for those seeking refuge from domestic violence.

 

Fire crews from Carson City and Tahoe Douglas helped battle a blaze at the Carson Valley Motor Lodge on Tuesday morning. The neighboring Carson Valley Inn hotel and casino was not damaged, though the motor lodge was an almost total loss. No guests were in the building because of renovations. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (Nevada Appeal, Wednesday, December 12, 2001)  Fire destroys Minden motor lodge A Tuesday morning fire destroyed much of the 76-room Carson Valley Motor Lodge in downtown Minden.  More than 60 firefighters from throughout Northern Nevada battled the fire, which was reported about 8:45 a.m. after employees saw smoke.
