Carson City Awarded $3.7 Million CARES Act Funding for Jump Around Carson Transit
The Federal Transit Administration has awarded Carson City’s Jump Around Carson (JAC) Transit $3.7 Million in funding for an application submitted in early April of this year. This award will allow the City’s local transit service to continue serving its residents and visitors, while responding to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Funding is provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, signed by President Donald J. Trump on March 27, 2020.
The funding will cover 100 percent of operating expenses accrued starting January 20, 2020, including preventive maintenance of the transit vehicles, and critical security and capital improvements of JAC’s facilities. Lucia Maloney, Transportation Manager said, “Our public transit system plays a critical role in our community, especially during this time of uncertainty. We thank the Federal Transit Administration for their timely award of this funding. We must also recognize the contribution of our transit staff, including our drivers, who are coming to work every day and helping people in our community get where they need to go.”
