Can I get help preparing a document in the Recorder's Office?

Per NRS 7.285, we are prohibited from advising you on the type of forms that are needed, from helping fill out forms, or from giving legal advice. Document preparation questions should be directed to legal counsel.
Will the Recorder’s Office Perform a search for me?

No, our office is not licensed, bonded, or insured to provide this type of service. Please contact either a title company, a private abstractor, a legal consultant, or you may perform a Records Search yourself, to obtain this information.
How do I add or remove a name from my property?

Requirements vary depending on individual circumstances and NRS 7.285 prohibits this office from giving legal advice or assisting with the completion of forms. You would need to record a new Deed document in the Carson City Recorder's Office to change how title is held to your property. Can I record my will with the Recorder's Office?

No, wills are not a recordable document. Typically, wills are kept in a safe place that can be accessed by family after your passing.

Does the Recorder's Office keep original documents?

No. If the document is recorded in person at our office, the original is mailed back to the customer after being recorded and scanned. Documents mailed in are returned every Monday. Electronically recorded originals are held by the company who recorded them.
Where do I obtain forms for recording purposes?

Our office provides a limited number of forms, including the Declaration of Value Form and Homestead Form. Other forms are available at most office supply, stationary stores, real estate attorney offices or through online searches of legal forms websites. Please be sure that these forms meet our formatting requirements before mailing them in for recording. Some forms can be found under Forms & Instructions.

Does the Recorder's Office have a notary public available?

Sorry, we do not have a notary public available in the office. There are companies that offer notary services, such as The UPS Store and some banking institutions.
What forms of payment does the Carson City Recorder accept?

The Recorder's office will accept cash, check, money order/cashier's check or credit card (Visa or MasterCard) as payment. If paying with a credit or debit card, a 3% processing fee will apply.
Does the Recorder's Office have copies of marriage/divorce records for Carson City?

No, the Recorder's Office does not have divorce or marriage records. You can search Marriage Records on the Marriage Department’s Website (Click Here). Does the Recorder's Office report recorded documents to the credit bureaus?

No, the Recorder's Office does not report any information to any of the credit bureaus. However, credit bureaus can access the public records and information found (such as liens and judgments) may then be reflected on your report.

The Recording Notification Service (RNS) allows members of the public to receive an email notification whenever a document is recorded at the Carson City Recorder's Office. This is a free service provided as a courtesy to our citizens. There is no guarantee that using this service will prevent fraud or inform you of all documents recorded that may pertain to your property.

Notification by Name and/or Assessor Parcel Number (APN)

Subscribers may list as many variations of their name and/or parcel numbers as necessary, to a registered email address. This service will only notify the subscriber of recording events based on the enrolled name(s) or parcel number(s) following sign-up. Please note it can take up to 72 hours to receive a recording notification.

If you receive a notification, a document has been recorded that includes a name or parcel that you are monitoring. The RNS will provide you with a link to the recorded document detail. Click the link in the email to view the document.

Be advised, not all names appearing on a document are indexed by the Recorder's Office. Grantors and Grantees are indexed by our office according to NRS 247.150. The Assessor Parcel Number (APN) is a requirement on all conveyance documents, liens, easements and mortgage type documents. The Assessor Parcel Number (APN) is not a requirement on all recordings. We recommend monitoring both your name variations and APN(s). We are unable to verify spelling of names or APN(s).

NRS 7.285 prohibits the Carson City Recorder's Office from giving legal advice, thus, our staff are unable to explain or provide information regarding the contents of the recorded documents. If you suspect you are a victim of document fraud, please contact local law enforcement.

I own multiple homes and/or properties in several different counties. Will one subscription entry cover me for all counties?

No. You must subscribe to each county individually. Note, this service may not be available in every county.
What should I do if I think I have been subject to fraud?

Contact local law enforcement and seek assistance from legal counsel if you suspect you are a victim to fraud. The Carson City Sheriff non-emergency dispatch number is 775-887-2007.
What information is provided in a recording notification email?

The recording notification will contain the name or parcel number (APN) identified in the subscription and a link directing you to the recorded document. By clicking on the link, you may see what type of document was recorded and download an unofficial copy, as needed. Per NRS 7.285 the Recorder's Office is prohibited from interpreting any document or providing legal assistance. We cannot verify names and or the Assessor Parcel Numbers (APN) for you.
What documents will I be notified about through the Recording Notification Service and how do I obtain a copy?

The Recording Notification Service notifies you to newly recorded documents only, i.e. documents recorded after you have subscribed. To search documents already recorded under your name, visit our Online Records Search and download a free watermarked copy or contact the Recorder's office to purchase an Official Record copy.
My last name is very common. Will I receive notifications that could possibly belong to someone else?

It is very possible to receive a recording notification that may pertain to another individual with the same name as you. Please view the document to determine whether it affects your property.
Does this service prevent someone from recording a document on my property?

No. Registered subscribers will receive an email notification of the recorded documents based on the enrolled name(s) or Assessor's parcel number (APN.) This notification service can take up to 72 hours after the document(s) have been recorded, indexed, and verified by the Recorder's Office.
Does this integrate with any online monitoring services (i.e. Lifelock)?

No. This is a separate service that will only notify the subscriber of a recorded document based on the enrolled name or parcel number. This is only a subscription for Carson City Nevada recordings.
