3. Public Comments and Discussion:

The public is invited at this time to comment on and discuss any topic that is relevant to, or within the authority of, the Carson City Cultural Commission. In order for members of the public to participate in the Commissions’ consideration of an agenda item, the Commissions strongly encourage members of the public to comment on an agenda item during the item itself. No action may be taken on a matter raised under public comment unless the item has been specifically included on the agenda as an item upon which action may be taken.

4. For Possible Action: To approve the Minutes from December 20, 2011

5. Agenda Items
Agenda Management Notice – Items on the agenda may be taken out of order; the public body may combine two or more agenda items for consideration; and the public body may remove an item from the agenda or delay discussion relating to an item on the agenda at any time.

5-1. For Possible Action: To elect a Cultural Commission Chair and Vice-Chair for 2012.

5-2. For Possible Action: To adopt and recommend to the Board of Supervisors approval of Cultural Commission Bylaws.

5-3. For Possible Action: To make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding policies and procedures and an ordinance related to incorporation of public art in public projects, buildings, and other locations in Carson City.

5-4. For Possible Action: To discuss and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding the Cultural Commission’s role in receiving a block grant from the City, managing a re-grant application process, and reviewing applications and making sub-grant awards.

5-5. For Possible Action: To discuss and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding the possibility of converting the Nevada State Prison to a museum or some public purpose that celebrates the architecture and significance of the site in Carson City and Nevada history, if the State abandons its use of facility, and the Cultural Commission’s possible role in converting the Prison to such a use.

6. Non-Action Items:

a. Update on Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition activities. (Joe McCarthy)

b. Staff reports and update on matters relating to the Cultural Commission. (Lee Plemel)

c. Cultural Commissioner status reports on projects and comments.

d. Future agenda items for the next meeting on June 19, 2012.

7. Public Comments: The public is invited at this time to comment on any matter that is not specifically included on the agenda as an action item. No action may be taken on a matter raised under this item of the agenda.
