A. Call to Order and Determination of Quorum

B. Action on Approval of Minutes

C. Modification of Agenda: This is the tentative schedule for the meeting. The Historic Resources Commission reserves the right to take items in a different order to accomplish business in the most efficient manner.

D. Disclosures: Any members of the Commission that may wish to explain any contact with the public regarding an item on the agenda or business of the Commission.

E. Public Comments: Members of the public who wish to address the Commission may speak on matters related to the Historic Resources Commission. Comments are limited to three minutes per person. If your item requires extended discussion, please request the chairman to calendar the matter for a future meeting. In order for members of the public to participate in the Commission’s consideration of a public hearing item on this agenda, the Commission strongly encourages members of the public to comment on the agenda item when the particular item is being discussed by the Commission. No action may be taken on a matter raised under this public comment portion of the agenda until the matter itself has been specifically included on an agenda as an item upon which action may be taken.

F. Public Hearing Matters

F-1 HRC-11-010 Action to consider a request from property owners Aaron and Mary Covington, Trustees, to re-roof the single family dwelling unit and the replacement of existing shed dormers with proposed gabled dormers, on property zoned Single Family 6000 (SF6), located at 312 Mountain Street, APN 003-191-01. (Jennifer Pruitt)  site plans

Staff Summary: Action to allow the exterior renovations of the single family dwelling unit including the addition of three gabled dormers to replace one existing shed dormer on the northern roof element. The request also includes the replacement of one shed dormer on the western and eastern roof elements with one gabled dormer each and re-roofing the single family dwelling unit with a 40 year composition roofing material.

F-2 HRC-11-005 Action to adopt a Resolution recommending to the Board of Supervisors a Proclamation declaring the month of May as Archaeological Awareness and Historic Preservation Month.

Staff summary: Historic Preservation Month was designed to raise awareness about the power historic preservation has to protect and enhance our homes, neighborhoods and communities. The National Trust designated the month of May as Archaeological Awareness and Historic Preservation Month.

In celebration of Archaeological Awareness and Historic Preservation Month, the Carson City Historic Resources Commission is holding their second annual Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt. Join in the fun and search for historic building features in our charming historic district.

F-3 HRC-11-004 Discussion and possible action to consider selection of the Historic Preservation Awards of 2011 in recognition of significant preservation accomplishments and in celebration of National Archaeological Awareness and Historic Preservation Month of May 2011.

Staff summary: This purpose of this item is to allow the HRC a forum to discuss, select and recognize significant preservation efforts in Carson City in celebration of the Archaeological Awareness and Historic Preservation Month of May. The Planning Division has compiled a list of recent projects that have been completed as of Jan 01, 2011.

By declaring National Preservation Month’s theme as “Celebrating America’s Treasures”, It is the hope of the National Preservation Fund that communities and organizations across the country will help spread the word that programs like Save America’s Treasures not only protect the places that tell our nation’s story, but also create jobs and spur economic development in our Main Streets.

F-4 HRC-11-006 Discussion only regarding an update of the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) grant for 2010. (Jennifer Pruitt)

Staff summary: Planning Division staff will provide the HRC and the general public with an update of the 2010 Historic Preservation Fund grant # 32-10-21935(1).
